Welcome Back Stingrays!
Homework/Planner Policy
I assign homework every night with the exception of Fridays. Please use the HOMEWORK tab to track assignments. I will also have these written on the board. It is the student's job to record homework nightly and check the website for updates. It is their responsibility to bring home their materials. Subject based folders are used for organization. We do prep students using binders & folders for Middle School. I encourage your child to e-mail me with any questions they may have about work, homework, or assignments. They may also ask any clarification questions during class or in private throughout the day. I do a lot of prep for self-advocating because Middle School is just around the corner! Homework is typically due weekly and a part of their station assignments. Fantastic 5 is due daily with all work shown. If homework is not returned, students will receive silent lunch and are expected to make up the assignment.
Grading Scale & Weighted Grades
New Hanover School Grading Scale
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 68 and below
Weighted Grades are as follows:
Tests 40%
Quizzes 35%
Classwork 25%
Tardy, Absent, Transportation
The bell rings at 7:15 and I expect students to be in class at the bell. This ensures your child having enough time to get into class, unpack for the day, copy homework and complete their Fantastic 5 morning math. However, tardies are not given until 7:45.
If you are aware of an absence early, please be sure to send in a note/send an e-mail with the date of absence & reason. I am required to document all absences as well as record them correctly into the computer. If you send a note or e-mail this will help keep your child’s attendance up to date in Powerschool. Please send a note with your child the day after they are absent with date & reason if you are unable to contact me prior.
Transportation: Please let me know through your child’s planner or by sending in a note if your child will change their transportation for the day. I am not allowed to send a child home on the bus, with a friend, or by car if that is not the “typical” way you send them home without consent for you. Please understand this is the best way to make sure your child gets home safely and at the discretion of you. Please include the date, how the child will get home, and your signature if you wish to change transportation. If this changes in the middle of the day, please e-mail me as soon as possible or call the school and let the office know.
Classroom Birthday Parties
Please let me know 2 days in advance if you plan to send in items for your child’s birthday. I am more than happy to accommodate. The best time for treats to be enjoyed by all is during our designated lunch time. If this does not work, please e-mail me and we can set up a time at the end of the day for all students to enjoy the birthday snacks!
Formal Parent Conferences
I will send home a Google doc sign up sheet with time slots and preferences. Please keep an eye-out for this sign-up sheet in the first 9 weeks of school. Of course, you can request a conference at any time as well with advanced notice. I am happy to meet with you after school or as your work schedule allows.
***EOG Friday***
This is a tradition I am bringing with me from my old school! Every week on Friday the last few months of school, we play EOG Friday games. The kids and I LOVE this! It is a time to de-stress but still practice critical problem solving skills and review for the big tests. In order for this to work, I am asking for classroom donations. If you are able and willing to send in red solo cups, ping pongs, nerf footballs, basketballs, buckets, extra masking tape, balloons, straws, cereal, extra expo markers, and string just to name a few, I will GLADLY welcome all materials! Prizes are also appreciated greatly! In the past I have given out soccer balls, posters, skateboards, soda, pencils, nail polish, silly string, puzzles, brain teaser books etc. I ask that if you are able, to please send in any of these items (I usually purchase them from 5 and below/bulk grocery/target $1 section) as soon as possible. It will be awesome to have a stack of goodies ready to go for all EOG Friday excitement when the time comes!
