My homework philosophy is strong. However, the purpose of homework can be ruined quite easily. Please make sure that your child is doing homework in a place that is quiet and monitored. Homework truly shows me how a student can preform on their own without the stress of a grade. It is meant to be practice of the skill that was taught that day. Of course, I encourage you to guide your student if they are struggling and let me know. Please avoid doing too much for them while they do their homework. "But that is not how Mrs. Lunsford taught us!!" can be said a lot. Sometimes, there is a certain way I do teach each skill. However, I encourage all of my students to find a strategy that works best for them, not me. As long as they can explain and do it on their own, I am 100% fine with whatever way works best for them. My students can bring home their math notebooks every night. They are encouraged to do so as it is an excellent resource for them and YOU! It will break down all strategies and notes we have taken on that day's skill. What the student puts in - is what they will get out of the school year. The goal is to have them ready for the independence of middle school!
Remember: Day Due: 5 points, 1 day late: 2 points, Friday: 0 points.
